I love Thursday night farmer’s market. Every Thursday from April to September the city closes the main streets in Chico and it becomes a market place. People bring all kinds of stuff to Farmer’s market. It is a little early for a lot of fruits and vegetables, but people still come with what they have grown. There are almost always belly dancers or jugglers and clowns at the market.
What I like the most about the Thursday market is getting to see the families. I miss my family and the kids so much, and at the market I get to see the babies in their strollers and the little kids who want to get a balloon or a toy or something like that. They are so excited to see everything. I saw one family this week and they were eating ice cream but more ice cream was on the shirt of the little boy than anywhere else. I bought some flowers for my landlady. She is very kind and treats me well. I wanted her to be surprised so she does not know they are from me.
Thursday night market is a good way to spend an evening. You can get food there and walk around and see American culture in its best light. The people are happy, and they are talking to each others and laughing and it shows the good hearts that are in the people. In the media the American people are shown as angry people who want to have aggressive wars. They are made to look like idiots on the reality shows. At Farmer’s Market I see the real Americans people and they are making me happy to watch them be themselves. Thursday market is a great thing for Chico. So many people have small businesses and can make extra money for their work in their gardens. If I was a farmer I would love the chance to sell my crops in the downtown open air market.
