~Globalization~

Globalization, according to my new hero John Perkins, the author of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, is nothing more than an global empire which is run by corporations with no loyalty to any country. Corporations went international a long time ago and they found that they could register in a number of countries and pick and choose who would give them the best deal – most profits due to least regulations on minimum wage, health and safety, environmental regulations and human rights. A more accurate term is for globalization according to Perkins is corporatization. One of my political science teachers said that regardless of its intent, the end result of corporatization /globalization is to turn the United States into a Third World country. The infrastructure, schools, health care are declining faster in America than anywhere else in the world and the people are getting more and more desperate. The government keeps bragging about all the jobs that are being created and they fail to mention that the U.S. is losing good paying jobs that can support a family and creating minimum wage jobs that do not even support one person let a lone a family. Americans may not work in a sweat shop for 18 hours a day, but they are working several jobs and do not have time to rest sufficiently or eat healthy foods cooked at home. They have no life. How can a marriage survive by post-it-notes as the couple pass coming and going? This could explain why there is so much depression, chronic fatigue and other problems in the U.S. than anywhere else? Americans have a great lifestyle but the price of that lifestyle is extremely high in relationships and health. Globalization puts people in a hamster wheel from which they can not escape. It is no help to the people in the Third World. They may have jobs because of globalization but their lives are not better because of it. They have more exhaustion and more pollution and greater hardships. Look up John Pilger and globalization on Youtube. It is very sad.

I think globalization will eventually face a backlash. Everywhere the corporations go to get a good deal finally wises up and starts asking for human rights, safe working conditions, and better wages. The corporations pick up and move. Eventually they will not have anywhere else to exploit and will finally have to give the people a fair deal. They might as well do that at home instead of paying for shipping. People need to preserve their cultures instead of every country becoming the USA with accents.
